Five regional priorities panels are providing 180 Canadian residents with the opportunity to meet, learn about primary care and write their own report about the reforms they believe Canada needs.

Each Priorities Panel will convene over several days. The members of each panel are volunteers who have been randomly selected to broadly match the demographics of the province they represent.

Each priorities panel follows a detailed curriculum developed in consultation with our provincial advisory committees, in order to:

  • Learn about the role of primary care in keeping people and communities healthy;

  • Understand how primary care is delivered in other jurisdictions;

  • Consider how different approaches might strengthen their province’s primary care system

  • Recommend actions which government, professional associations, and other healthcare actors should take to ensure sustainable, equitable primary care for all residents

Panel Reports

In each province, members of the public spend 30-40 hours learning about primary care from experts and deliberating with each other. They are strangers who bring different perspectives but through the process come to consensus on core values, key issues and recommendations for a better primary care system. At the end of the process, they write a report summarizing their views.
